Zolpidem is used for problems such as:

  • Difficulty falling asleep

Zolpidem is used for temporary sleep problems. Zolpidem is not meant to be used for long periods of time.


You must tell your doctor if:

Do not take alcohol while you are taking Zolpidem.

Do not drive or use machinery or tools if you feel confused, sleepy or dizzy.

Take your tablets exactly as your told to by your doctor.

Take just before bedtime. Treatment should not normally continue beyond 4 weeks. Zolpidem can change the levels of liver enzymes showing up in blood tests. This might mean that your liver is not working properly you must tell your doctor that you are taking Zolpidem, if you are going to have a blood test.

If you take more than you should, tell a doctor or go to a hospital straight away.

Taking too much Zolpidem is very dangerous. The following problems may happen: Feeling drowsy, confused, sleeping deeply and possibly falling in to a coma

Zolpidem must only be taken at bedtime.

Do not take another dose to make up for a forgotten tablet.

Keep taking Zolpidem till your doctor tells you to stop.

If you suddenly stop taking Zolpidem, your sleep problems may come back and you may suffer from withdrawal.

Tell your doctor or if any of the following side effects get serious or lasts longer than a few days:

  • Feeling sick or vomiting (being sick)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Respiratory infection
  • Diarrhoea
  • Feeling sleepy, drowsy or confused
  • Sleeping problems
